Try removing the belt from the PS pulley and making sure it moves freely and is tight (no movement in/out, l/r, up/dn). If it is bad its no a terribly hard replacement, but you will need a special pulley puller that can be barrowed from most parts stores.

If you plan on using your rig off road much I'd recomend the Rubber Degreed Radius Arm Bushing from WH (wild horses), and to get new leaf springs for the back instead of the blocks. With a 5.5 lift extended break lines are a must for safety.

Another option is the m5od out of the F-150. I enjoy mine. The m5od is about the same length as the zf and uses the same adapter to the t-case, but is smaller and lighter.

If I remember right the fifth gear problem in the 4500 is a nut coming loose. It seems the fix is to tack weld it into place.

One good thing about the ZF is you can bolt up a np 205 to it saving an adapter and gaining strength.

It would be the high pinion D-60, the early front ends would king pin, and later would be ball joint (not sure what year they changed). The rear could be either a D-60 or Sterling 10.25. As long as the truck a 97 or older it would have the standard 8 lug pattern. 99 and newer had the funky metric lu...

The best options seem to be the Ford F-series 5spd tranies. You have two options the F-150 M5OD, or the F-2/350 ZF. I believe they are the same length. The ZF is larger, heavier, and stronger. I used the M5OD, and installed it in about a day by myself using the AA ZF adapter.

36/13.5-15 bias IROKs. I'm very impressed with them off pavement. They are exeptable on road. And according to Interco the 36's are lighter, taller, and wider tread width than the 37's in the 15" wheel size.
