Finally bit the bullet and picked up some wheels off craigslist. Got a pretty good deal imo, $60 for four wagon wheels and a double-tube bumper that may or may not work once new mounts are welded on. its a little short so ill mock up and see how it looks. wheels will be sanded and painted black most...

Hey Shutch, i rebuilt my motorcraft 2100 and iv been having fun trying to get it fine tuned. I noticed my fuel pump is leaking and blowing black liquid onto my oil filter, so ill prob be replacing that soon to see if it helps fuel delivery to my carb. Not really sure what your issue is, but you may ...

Half Cab contd

I forgot to mention a step, prob a few, but the big one b4 i got too far ahead of myself with bodywork, was actually mounting the top. This frustrated me for a while b/c I thought i did not have enough space btwn the roof and where the bolts go thru the windshield frame. Anyways, after some creative...

half cab contd

OK, getting closer. The main structure of the half cab had been completed. I securely attached the two pieces together via fiberglass matte and was ready to move on. I test fit the Top again to make sure everything was bueno and realized it needed to make some door jams to sit above the door frame. ...

I bet most don't know what you have to go through to make something as "simple" as a half-cab top. Thanks for the kind words DirtDonk and z.man. And your both right, i thought this was going to be a 'simple' one or two weekend project, but it wound up taking me about 3months worth of days off. Of c...

Half Cab contd

Alright, now the molds were complete so i filled in the pinholes and any imperfections with some bondo and sanded the molds as smooth as a babies butt and cleaned up the edges. At this time, i pretty much repeated the process used to make the molds. I cut out my fiberglass matt pieces, waxed the ins...

Half Cab contd

So after I cleaned up the original steel top as described above, I waxed the pieces and applied the fiberglass. This took a while b/c I cut out each fiberglass matt piece twice to make a sturdy mold that was at least double layered. Anyways here are some pics of how the molds came out after i popped...

Fiberglass Half Cab DIY

The projected started off when I met a bronco guy who told me he converted his entire bronco to fiberglass and still had the molds laying around his shop. He offered to show me the ropes so I took him up on the offer. I always wanted a half cab, but didn’t like the price on the vendors sites so th...

Thanks for the comments guys. The boat motor will soon be replacing the 302...haha yeah right. Its actually the dinghey motor for my dads boat, he was doing some fiberglass work to the cover and a new paint job along with some basic maintenance. Its a cramped work space, but it beats getting rained ...

Ok, so now the bumper is fairly straight, bolt hole cracks are welded back together and low spots were hit with light bondo. Next, I sanded down the inside of the bumper, taped off the edges and bolt holes and applied Duplicolor Bed Armor to the inside of the bumper. Two coats worked just fine and l...

Front Bumper Repair

I decided it was time to start some bodywork on the ol’ bronco. The front bumper seemed like a good, sort of easy place to begin for a newbie, so I got to work. There were Three main issues I wanted to address: 1.) cracked metal where the bolt holes are located. 2.) bumper bent from front end impa...

Thanks for the quick feedback! Yeah Scodge, you were right, my tarp idea wasnt really worth a crap. i mocked it all up with duct tape and the bungees and quickly realized that the angles would not work without some type of brace above my head. Plus im not too sure how it would hold up driving down t...

Budget Island Garage

December 15th officially brought an end to the 2010 hurricane season, so with the looming possibility of storms out of the way, I decided it was time to resurrect my budget ‘garage’ in hopes to keep the rain & iguana crap out of my roofless bronco. Although i have minimal posts, iv been reading ...

Just curious. I've been to St. Thomas. Got married there at Magens Bay beach. Beautiful place. Didn't seem like an environmentally friendly place for vintage trucks though. Hey Scodge. Thats cool, Magens is a great beach, a few too many tourists though haha! & you are right...this island has taken ...
