Early Morning Fire Destroys Damascus Shop
Boring Fire Dist. - 08/24/12

2012-08/1085/57048/030.JPG

At 4:05am this morning Boring and Clackamas Fire Districts responded to an early morning report of a residential fire at the corner of Heidi Lane and Cielo Court. The crews arrived on scene to find a 30 x 40 shop with heavy smoke and flames shooting from the building.
Among the contents of the shop was a 1954 Ford F100 pick-up truck that the owner had had since he was 14 years old was said to be his first vehicle. There were also two Ford Broncos from the early 1970's.
A Clackamas Fire District #1 Fire Investigator remained on scene to try and determine the cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported and damage estimates are not available at this time.

Oh - that does suck. Even with insurance you can never replace the bond all that blood sweat and tears makes.
I'll wait a few days to call and see if there is anything I can do to help.

Sorry to see that and as stated I'm glad no one was hurt. Is'nt that the same shop they had the bronco meet and greet in a few years back? First time I met Shawn, Regshawn and Stan, was at that gathering. I feel for them and am glad their safe. Prayers go out to them.

Ya ; Don hosted some of the frist "gathering of the locals" in his shop. Him and josh got the ball rolling.
I feel for him - i think it'd take me at least a couple of days to get over the blow.

Hi all. Yes, this is me and Kyle Porth's shop. It's unclear how the fire started but it began around 4 AM. With no windows and few neighbors, the building was pretty much gone before anyone saw the fire. My wife and I were on vacation but my other son was home and handled things till we got back. My 1954 Ford F-100 that I've had for 36 years was destroyed as was my 1973 Bronco and Michelle Porth's 1973 Bronco. Fortunately, Kyle had his at his home in Lebanon for the summer so we have a survivor! So much work lost here. I thought there might be an opportunity to salvage some parts but every flake of paint was burned off. Every stitch of fabric inside was burned away and all tires were completely consumed (and alloy wheels melted).

Insurance will help us put things back together but there's way too much that money can't buy. So we'll see what happens from here. We're not clear if more Broncos will sprout up. Kyle's bright blue 69 will still be alive and well so look for him from time to time. Take care all. Hope to continue to see you around.

looking for some help on value of the 73 bronco that was in there:

1973 U15
1993 ford mustang 5.0 sportsman block and heads...miles???
engine had edelbrock performer 289 intake, and matching edelbrock valve covers/air filter. as well as mustang serp system
power steeriing and power brakes
rebuilt C4 transmission
dana 20 J shift
ford 9" and D44 with 79 disc conversion

no rust except the rocker panels which were partially cutout (had toms rocker panels to replace.

bought doors and hard top seperate.

the bronco was stripped down to just the tub, doors, and running gear.

i am looking for some help on estimating the value, it was ready to run mechanically but just had the body taken apart.

attached are some pictures that might help.

dont have any very good current pictures, but the last one is the closest.

Now that the dust (or soot) has settled, the Porth family has decided we can't live without a Bronco and are on the lookout for another. My lovely wife wants to be able to get behind the wheel once in a while (maybe my daughter in law too) so it will need an automatic. We're looking for something on the milder side and something in a pretty finished condition. If you have or know of someone with a Bronco coming up for sale, please let me know. Thanks!

Thats what I love about the true Bronco addict. Its all gone, the shop is gone, tools, but we need to get another Bronco parked on the ashes pile as soon as possible. ;) I've seen a few for sale. The Patrol at the Unevent even let me know he saw one for sale on a side street in Eugene.

Yeah, we were thinking of different things, maybe a mustang, thunderbird, or something like that but just kept coming back to the Bronco. They're stylish, nostalgic, easy to work on, and can cruise around or do some real work. Best of all, Kyle likes to work on them so as I get lazier, I won't have trouble keeping it in top shape!

I'm pleased to announce that the Porth family has a new Bronco! It's a 1972 Bronco Sport in a lovely shade of Black. It sports a 302 with an upgraded cam, 33 inch tires, a fantastic interior, and an otherwise pretty stock presence. It's good to be back in the club!

It's in pretty great shape but there are a lot of little things to fix up. Some wiring needs cleaning up, battery shut off switch, I want to try and build a hinge for the back seat to allow it to tumble forward, it may need brakes (e-brake is almost to the end of it's adjustment), steering wheel needs to be turned a couple clicks. Just little things like that. It really drives nice though.

Stan, give a call and come by if you have time. I'm tied to the yard this week since demo of the shop is going on. Maybe I can drive out next week and show it off.
