I'm official...well in a couple weeks :D . Finally got out to take the exam and passed the Technician. Tried for the General while I was there for the heck of it (hadn't ANY idea what the questions were going to be) and only got about half correct. Oh well, would have just been more money to buy the extra cool stuff.

After 'lurking' in on ragchews and nets for the last month, I finally checked into a local net tonight- it was the sandy-clackamas-timber connection...I can't believe I was nervous
My neighbor has a 100'+ tower 6 beam Yagi he uses for HF stuff and says I can run an antenna up it...but I am already a geek :?

I just reread this thread. Wow, I sure have learned a lot since the beginning 8O

I changed my callsign. The number you are trying to reach, KG7EDC has been changed, the new number is W7EDC, please make a note of it

Here is were I have the radio faceplate mounted for now. It's just velcroed under the lip of the dashpad so I can remove it easily (I don't leave it in the Bronco)

Chatterbox Stan on a radio!?!? Good God what are you trying to do to the radio world. I think he is the reason the FCC gave up on monitoring the CB radio.

Well, it's been a year since the beginning of this thread.

These radios have made CB's pretty much obsolite. Last year we were on a Jolly Jeepers run in the TSF and there was a forest fire...there was no way anyone would have have cell service...Autopatch was used and 911 was called...if not- who knows how much forest would have burned.

Last weekend my wife (W7OTC) and I were out in the Tillamook State Forest and we came upon an injured motorcycle rider. We were able to communicate while she transported the injured rider and communicate with me and the rest of his party through simplex. We could have contacted 911 even in our remote location and told them our precise location, but the rider and rest of his party declined. The range of CB was hardly comparable. She was using an HT, and me with my 8800.

I just ordered a Yaesu 2900 for her rig (no confusing bells and whistles, just heavy duty easy-to-use reliable power)...the only reason we plan on keeping our CBs is for others. Get your License- It's time well spent.

Shawn W7EDC.
