Unevent 2014

Post by Stan » Tue May 27, 2014 9:21 am

Hey if you're thinking about coming to the Unevent and haven't got a place to stay yet check this out . For some reason I haven't - until now - :)
" Port of Siuslaw Campground And Marina" -- not as woodsie as Honeyman
but got some cool features -especially if you have family members who don't really like "woodsie camping "

Looks kind of like a KOA - with a marina , fish cleaning station , car wash , - kayak rental , close to Old Town.
checking the local "event calendar " for August - they don't have a lot published yet ; but I see Neal McCoy at the Casino Aug9-10 and a golf/beer tournament - and I think a beer tasting at Rogue Ale in Newport.

If any of you guys have never been to the Unevent and are trying to decide if it's worth the trip ; just "Goggle" Broncos at unevent or Broncos in Florence Oregon or Broncos at Florence Sand dunes . There are quite a few videos on u tube. You'll see what we've been up to the previous 4 years.
If YOU want to attend and your better half or your kids aren't quite so enthused about it -show em these picts. - they're more "mom friendly" :)

Hard to believe but I've heard that some guys let their wives and kids dictate their vacations. So while those videos of Broncos jumping sand dunes and burning copious amount of fuel excite the hell out of us it doesn't always convince the better half.
I thought you were staying in one of those fancy cabins again this year - the ones with TV,hot tub , microwave , private bath --. and are you storing all that bacon in camp or in secret location ? could make a difference :)

I checked out the Port of Suislaw campground. Pretty much like the pictures show . Just East a couple blocks and on the river from the Boardwalk in old town . If a guy got a site "in the tree area" he might forget he's that close to town . And it is better than some of the KOAs I've seen . :)
Honeyman removed some of the dead and leaning trees from the campground - so hopefully no more "deadfalls" and power outages for us sissies.

Went to a car show this morning at the Kiwanis Fly In / cruise in breakfast. Three Broncos there - all pretty nice - none are coming to the Unevent- WTH ! - two of them have heard about it though - but they did seem to be different kind of "Bronco People" -- LOL

As most things "Unevent"; there are a lot of "touristy " things to do in the Florence area and a lot of them "just happen". Going to the Lighthouses is one. I think last year a 1/2 dozen of us went to the one at Heceta Head - just past the Sea Lion Caves . A few of us went bowling - and I Kicked Ass -- - hey that's how I remember it - ;)
There was also a drive to/thru the "Covered Bridges".
And if you've had your EB painted sometime in the last 10 years and you're out on the sand you should think twice when Arsenio says " Hey follow me " :)
Stan
I think I still have some printed literature on the two closest lighthouses i'll bring if you want some info on them. It's a nice scenic drive to Heceta and the beach has a nice picnic spot -
It looks like the Starkmiester will post the official itinerary on Aug 1st

Ok then - I MIGHT follow you this year then . :)
Hey Redleg - when you arriving in Florence? I must have given out all the printed stuff on the light houses but i'll probably go to Haceta again . Like I said it's a nice drive and beach area. The light house down by Reedsport is a little longer drive but is pretty nice Lighthouse.

We will be arriving Wed Morning. We were suppose to be there the Saturday before, but a trip to Kauai came up and ate up the wife's vacation time. I am fine with light houses or covered bridges, or dunes. Just seeing if people had anything planned that I might tag along.

Yeah Stan I remember Arsenio saying that. I was leading them out on the beach at dusk and my tail gate flopped down. So then Arsenio said to everyone else follow me. I am looking and think why the hell did he go that way it is farther down to get to the beach. They were all ahead of me and I couldn't see them, but there was only one way to head after following the trail I saw them go down and running into someone's camp. Anyway as I saw the trail turned into a motorcycle trail I boogied back out of the bush then when down the main beach trail. I get to the beach and ask Arsenio why he took them down that trail. He laughed his butt off and said "That is the funniest thing. I can't believe all those people followed me and I didn't know where I was going. " .
