3spd to c4 swap and t-case questions

Post by 69brightbluebronco » Thu Aug 08, 2013 9:34 pm

so we are swapping a c4 into my dads bronco (a 72) we already swapped the column and he took out the t-case, and trans, and bellhousing (the 3spd stuff) we bought a c4 with intermediate housing, but it doesnt have the intermediate shaft...

does the 3spd intermediate shaft work? with the c4 and d20? we would be re-using the original d20 that was on the 3spd, i read that the 3spd intermediate shaft is about 3/8 inch longer.

the intermediate housings arent the same are they? the one with the c4 does not appear to have a retainer bearing. any info on this.?

just looking for help on these finer details of the swap.

if we need a new intermediate shaft/housing for a c4, does anyone in the area have these kicking around that they wont need?

We actually have the housing but it looks like we need the shaft, bearing, retainers, etc. Also looking for a dowel plate and inspection cover for the back of the block. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

How big of hurry are you in? I probably have most of that but I don't have time to go through the shelves right now.

A bit of a hurry. My non-Kyle son wants to use it as his wedding getaway vehicle on August 31. Kyle and I will be working on it today and see how far we get.

It seems like the thin metal cover plate on the back of the block could just have an "inspection cover" cut from the one piece unit and re-used. Anybody know of a reason why that wouldn't work? We'll see if we can modify the shaft, bearing, etc. today. I already have the starter for the automatic (so I have a good starter for the manual tranny available for anyone needing one!).

Speaking for Tom - :) you're welcome Tom - :) - he's not procrastinating - at least not on the c-4 stuff :)
Don ; Glad to hear you've got the "new" Bronco and are modifying it - { take that Art :P } -

if the parts are off of an auto then that would be perfect.
we have the intermediate housing for a c4 to D20 but none of the "guts"
if it is all for an auto then that would work great. let me one of us know time/place for tuesday
