I have a '70 Bronco with a Schrillo 61200 power steering box. Is there anyone that has any info on this, were these common?

Welcome aboard.
Vintage PS unit added to the stock manual steering box. Sold by Hickey and probably a few others back in the day. Here are some links. ... p?t=129947

Cool, thanks for the info! Were these units reliable and is it worth putting back on or should I go ahead with F150 conversion?

Probably depends on how easy it would be to find parts for and re-build/re-seal I would think.
For sheer cool-factor, it'd be great to stay with the Schrillo. But for common knowledge base and support, along with strength, I'd say do the F-150 box. Or any of the more modern setups.
Easier to deal with and (I'm guessing) stronger too, since your stock manual box is probably the weak-link here.

Good luck. Nice score anyway. Not too many of those guys still around I'm betting.

If it's in good condition you might be able to sell it to someone doing a resto. It might fund the parts you need for a stronger box.

It does work and is in good condition it just leaks a little. Been trying to find a rebuild/reseal kit but not having much luck.

If you just need seals I'm sure you'd be able to find them on the open market. Check with a cylinder shop or heavy equipment shop that rebuilds cylinders. They'll be able to tell you or point you in the right direction.

Good call. A hydraulic service shop should have all sorts of odds-n-ends seals laying around. With luck, yours aren't totally unique to that application. Not likely, but not unheard of either.
Good luck.

Schrillo Power Steering

I am 1 of the 2 designers of the Schrillo Power Steering. We also made units for the F150, F250 and several race sprint, Indy & NASCAR vehicles that were available from Schroder & Halibrand.
The Schrillo Power Steering is a strong reliable unit. Their are thousands of them in use. The control Valve and upper nut assembly are Saginaw units and are easy to find. I still have 50 or so still in stock if needed.

Hey Chuck. Welcome the heck to broncofix! Great to hear from you for sure. We are absolutely always interested in hearing from original designers or builders of any of the products on our vintage of trucks. Or anyone that helped build the trucks for that matter!

What brings you here? Did you search the name and find this thread, or are you by any chance a Bronco owner (still?) yourself?
Either way, glad to have your input and hope there are those that can benefit from any of the stuff you have.

Probably be fun to hear about the progression and development of the product no matter what. When you have time, spew forth with any good old stories you might have.

And again, welcome.

I had one of those! I tried to rebuild it with little success, but mine had corrosion in the bore so even after I replaced nearly everything it still did't work right. I think I gave it to Bob at All-4-Fun in Albany, Oregon. I went with the F150 box over ten years ago....
