Loose parking brake cable

Post by ymelnic1 » Tue Jan 28, 2014 7:43 pm

My parking brake cable is super loose. Is there a way to tighten it up? There's over an inch of slack, maybe more. I'm attaching pictures in case I'm missing something. Any ideas?

Tighten this nut...after your rear brakes are adjusted properly.

Shawn, the slack is definitely on the pedal cable... I'm wondering if that rectangular plate needs to be welded to the body somewhere???

Is upper cable too long/non bronco?
Is the cable mounted securely where it comes through the floor?

Looking at it again, it looks like where the cable anchors to the floorboard is not where it needs to be. Looks like a previous repair was attempted? Try to swing the 'bracket' so it's parallel with the floor reinforcement.

Shawn: Is the bracket supposed to be welded to the floorboard? Right now it's just hanging at the end of the cable...

Stan: The cable at the pedal has a "stopper" that makes the connection with the floorboard when the brake cable is tightened up (pulled on from the underneath.) It seemes the the cable is original.

Yes, both (sheath) ends of the cable need to be anchored. If I remember right, the end we are looking at attaches to the forward edge of the floor reinforcement.
