I've had both, the manual is great for getting yourself out of a mud hole, but it is hard to beat the control you have with an auto when it comes to tight twisty trails

I have a manual, so I guess that is how I vote, Although now I live in the city, so an Auto would be nice..

Grew up 4 wheeling manuals so that's my vote. Auto for the daily driver Superduty and can't wait for the stock 3 spd to 435 swap on the '69!

Grew up wheeling in old Fords with the NP 435, and am now in the process of swapping out my C4 for a 435. Daily driver auto is fine, but I'm sick of riding the brakes going downhill in 4-lo. Manual all the way!

Auto all the way. Especially when you need a quick reverse to stop you from going over.

Auto is for me and mine doesn't shift into high until about 55mph. Firm shifts every time. The C4 is great, but would love overdrive...

Auto c4 now,

I have always had manuals on every vehicle for the last 20 years. Manuals are great for rocking out a bad spot, I had a '777 cj7 3 speed and teh reverse-1st gear proximity made for easy rocking out.

Is this howa bronco 3 speed is as well, w/reverse next to 1st.

I agree that manual go down hills better, I also ride the brakes, I need to install a jake brake switch in the bronco. My superduty's rules, nevr need to use teh breaks even when hauling a 30' trailer.

have been driving broncos since 1978 & racin' em since 83 and i'll have to say for dependability & in the rocks a manual is the best. but for racing, very soft sand & tough hills it's the auto that is my choice. currently own 1 '79/400/c6/205/3.50 detroit
1 '74 302/c4/dana 20/ 3.50 posi's f&r
2 '85 302 /aod/1345/ 3.50 in various forms of disrepair
1 '67 shortened & narrowed- 351cj(currently out)c4/4000 stall/5.14 spool- sand drag car(crazy horse) and lots more good junk(all ford & ford powered).
looking for a 92-96 for a powerstroke conversion. mike

Manual

I bought the ZF5 before the Bronco, mostly a matter of timing but I already had that planned.

Granny low + overdrive + compression braking Cool

If I ever get into bumper to bumper traffic I can just put it into first and crawl and don't need to ride the brakes.

Use the 1345 t case behind it and you have a great combo. I run a e4od n& 1345 in my 95 with a 7.3 powerstroke and it's all I ever need. even in the rocks.
